HP 3488A: boring “repair”

This one is the most disappointing repair I did if I can call this a repair.

I bought two HP 3488A, one fully working but in not so great condition, the other one was in pristine condition but sold as “not working”.

Actually it was sold as “doesn’t turn on” and I bet it would not turn on as its fuse older was empty.

The fuses were neatly packed and taped on top of the instrument.

Unpacking them and installing the right one was a piece of cake. Selecting the correct user voltage was also straightforward: it was set to 115Vac, you just have to throw a switch and you are done.

As the user and service manual of the HP 3488A states that that was the usual state the instruments was shipped I can only think that I got a NOS HP3488A that never did any work.

So… not actually a repair and now I have two working HP3488A.

Boring.

Maybe I should design some board for them…
